Conservative Veteran Challenges Other Candidates To Follow His Lead

HARKER HEIGHTS, TEXAS - Republican Candidate for State Representative Mike Pearce today announced he has signed the ‘Taxpayer Protection Pledge’. The pledge, an initiative promoted by Americans for Prosperity (AFP), requires candidates for public office to commit to fiscal discipline and to support limitations on the burgeoning growth of government. Pearce was the first candidate running for House District 55 to sign the pledge.

Pearce is a conservative Republican campaigning to succeed the incumbent, State Representative Dianne Delisi, who is retiring at the end of her term. Pearce said, “I’m proud to make a strong commitment to Central Texas voters that I’ll fight against tax increases and stand up to wasteful government spending. It’s time we demand fiscal accountability from candidates for pubic office and hold their feet to the fire. I call upon my opponents to join me in signing the ‘Taxpayer Protection Pledge’.”

The Texas Chapter of Americans for Prosperity has fought for lowering taxes, eliminating wasteful government spending, and prohibiting the use of public tax dollars for advocacy. They are a taxpayer advocacy grassroots organization that engages citizens in supporting limited government and free markets on the local, state and federal levels www.americansforprosperity.org.

According to fiscal experts, local governments increased their property tax levies in excess of 70% between 1996 and 2003. During that period, the state’s population and inflation grew only 16%. Property tax revenues are growing four times faster than population and inflation. Pearce added, “Taxpayers can’t sustain the current explosive growth of government which is expanding well beyond population growth plus inflation.”

Pearce is the owner and founder of MVP Educational Products and taught in Bell County schools for 10 years. Prior to becoming a teacher, Pearce served in the U.S. Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserves. Pearce, a lifelong Republican, has served in many leadership roles in the Republican Party including election judge, precinct chairman, and Republican Party delegate to the State Convention. Pearce also served as the volunteer coordinator for the Hugh Shine for Congress Campaign and was a guest host for Shine on the KTEM 1400 CenTex Today radio talk show.
