As a husband of 17 years and the father of 6 wonderful children, I know the importance of family in our society. I’ll be a staunch defender of preserving our traditional moral values that make Texas such a great place to raise a family. I am unafraid to affirm my strong conservative convictions and will be a stalwart defender of the unborn, fighting for legislation to protect their unalienable right to life.
I believe that marriage is an essential institution that exists only between a man and woman. I oppose the expansion of gambling in Texas because of the destructive nature and negative impact it has on families. Because of these firmly held beliefs, my campaign has been endorsed by the Texas Eagle Forum, the state’s leading conservative organization.
As responsible members of society, we must live within our means. I believe that state government should do so as well. I will support a Texas Taxpayer Protection Act requiring that state expenditures not rise faster than inflation or population. Surplus revenue would be returned to taxpayers or used to alleviate property and business taxes. As a fiscal conservative and a small business owner, I know that a burdensome tax structure can stifle economic growth. We pay too much in taxes to various governmental entities right now.
I support a cap on annual home appraisal increases to keep residential property taxes from increasing too rapidly. I will oppose any effort to implement a state income tax. My fiscal philosophy can best be summarized as follows: We don’t need more government. We need more efficient government.
The English philosopher John Locke once wrote, “The reason why men enter into society is the preservation of their property.” If government recklessly confiscates private property, the fabric of our society collapses and we become servants of the government.
One of the largest transportation projects in the country, The Trans-Texas Corridor, will pass through Central Texas and displace many property owners in House District 55. Secretive deals with foreign companies are not the best way to implement public policy. I will fight to ensure that the property of Texans is respected and preserved whenever possible.
As a military veteran and a former marksmanship instructor with the U.S. Marine Corps, I am a strong supporter of our Second Amendment rights. I will fight any effort to erode our Constitutional rights and implement any form of gun control.
Since the Federal government has not met its obligation to secure our borders, I will fight to ensure that Texans are protected from the economic, social, and criminal impact of illegal immigration. I support using more state resources to address this problem including:
The sanctity of our democratic process is constantly under threat by those who are casting votes illegally. I strongly support efforts to ensure the integrity of the ballot box. As your state representative, I will support legislation to require proof of citizenship prior to registering to vote. In addition, I believe requiring Texas voters to present a valid photo ID is reasonable and necessary to ensure the integrity of elections.
As a former teacher with 10 years of classroom experience, I understand what is needed to improve education. We spend plenty of money on educating our children. More focus needs to be placed not on the quantity of dollars, but the quality of dollars. We must constantly measure our expenditures in the education field against efficiency and effectiveness.
We need higher and more measurable standards, appropriate student placement, better pay for teachers to retain those who demonstrate success, laws that protect teachers from meritless litigation and also the ability to remove underperforming teachers. I believe free market alternatives should be implemented to improve public education.
